NASA selects four university teams in the ninth round of ULI funding
NASA has selected four university-led teams for the ninth round of University Leadership Initiative funding, awarding approximately $30 million across projects in supersonic propulsion, aviation autonomy, urban air mobility noise, and aircraft certification.
NASA has selected four university-led teams to receive approximately $30 million in the ninth round of University Leadership Initiative funding. The awards run for three to four years.
The selected projects are:
- Adaptive Supersonic Combined Cycle Engine for Next-generation Transportation — University of Minnesota, led by Terrence Meyer, four years.
- Safety Across Lifecycle of Learning-Enabled Avionics Systems: Safety Data Flywheel — Stanford University, led by Somil Bansal, four years.
- Noise-Optimal Trajectory Planning for Urban Air Mobility Operations, Including Ambient Noise — Stanford University, led by Juan Alonso, four years.
- Certification Driven Aircraft Design Under Uncertainty — Virginia Tech, led by Darshan Sarojini, three years.
Under ULI, university teams set their own research agenda and build their own partnerships, rather than working to a research plan defined by NASA. Each team is expected to pursue transition opportunities for its results over the course of the award.
